Telegram group finder
Search public Telegram groups and channels by topic
Telegram's own search matches names, not subjects. Type what a community is actually about and search an index built for discovery, then check each result before you join.
Why Telegram's own search runs out
Telegram search is good at the job it was built for. Type a word, get chats whose name or username closely matches it. For finding a conversation you already know exists, that is exactly right.
It stops being right the moment you are looking for something you have never seen. A group called @devs_berlin_2024 will not surface for "Berlin developer community" unless the words happen to line up, and plenty of the best communities have names that describe nothing at all. Results also lead with chats and contacts you already have, which is sensible for messaging and useless for discovery. There is no activity signal, so a group of 40,000 members that has been silent since March looks identical to a group of 400 posting every day. And there is no topic or language filter, so you cannot ask for communities in Portuguese, or in a niche, or above some level of life.
Searching by subject fixes the first half of that. Judgment fixes the second half, and no index can do it for you.
How to search well
Specific queries beat broad ones, consistently.
crypto returns noise forever;
solana validator operators returns a shortlist. Two or three words describing a real subject will almost always outperform a single category word, and adding a city, a country or a language narrows it further in the direction you actually want.
If the community you want is not English-speaking, search in its language. Group names and descriptions are written by the people inside them, so a Portuguese-speaking community is far more likely to describe itself in Portuguese than in English.
Check a group before you join it
This is the step that separates a useful list from a folder of dead links, and it takes about ninety seconds per candidate.
- Last message date. The single strongest quality signal. A community quiet for two months is usually not coming back.
- Several days of history, not five messages. You are looking for whether people talk to each other, or whether one admin is broadcasting into silence.
- Rules and a visible admin. A pinned rules message correlates strongly with a group worth your time. No rules plus constant promotional links means you found a spam farm.
- Conversation-to-link ratio. Healthy communities discuss things. Unhealthy ones are a wall of forwarded promotions and the members are mostly bots.
- Authenticity. For a company's or project's official community, get the link from their own website or verified account. Impersonation groups are common and often larger than the real thing.
Groups, channels and supergroups behave differently
Search returns all three mixed together, and they are not interchangeable. A group is a conversation where members talk to each other. A channel is a broadcast feed where only admins post. A supergroup is a group that grew into Telegram's larger-capacity form, with better moderation tools. Join a channel expecting discussion and you get an announcement board; join a busy group expecting announcements and you will mute it within a day. The full breakdown is in group vs channel vs supergroup.
After you join: the part that actually costs time
Finding groups is a one-time cost. Keeping up with them is the recurring one, and it is where most people quietly give up. Once you are in thirty communities across two or three accounts, Telegram's search cannot help, because it runs one account and one keyword at a time. It cannot tell you who asked about pricing across all your groups this month, which groups have gone quiet, or whether anyone ever answered a question.
That is a different problem with a different solution: connect your accounts and query across the whole set at once. For reading and summarizing, see searching Telegram with AI. For sales specifically, the Telegram lead finder turns a buying signal into a query you can paste into an AI client, and the long-form workflow behind it is in finding leads in Telegram groups. When several people manage several accounts and ownership needs to be visible, that is what a Telegram CRM is for.
What this does not do
It does not index private groups. Those require an invite, they are not searchable here or anywhere else, and any tool claiming otherwise is either describing public groups or misrepresenting itself. It is also a discovery aid rather than a safety guarantee: it tells you a community exists and what it appears to be about. Whether it deserves your time is a judgment only you can make, after looking. If you want the manual methods that complement this page, they are in how to find Telegram groups.

Frequently asked questions
Can you search all public Telegram groups?
Not from inside the Telegram app. Telegram's own search matches usernames and chat titles that closely resemble what you typed, and it leads with chats you have already joined. Searching public groups by subject requires an external index built for discovery, which is what this page is.
Why does Telegram search show channels when I want groups?
Names and topics overlap, and Telegram returns both in a single list. Open the result and check whether ordinary members can post in the main conversation. If only admins can post, it is a channel, which is a broadcast feed rather than a discussion.
How do I tell an active Telegram group from a dead one?
Check the date of the most recent message, then read back several days. Activity is the most reliable quality signal available and it is not shown in search results, so you have to open each candidate and look. Member count is the least useful number on the page.
Is it safe to join public Telegram groups?
Joining is low risk, but review your privacy settings first so your phone number is not visible to other members, be sceptical of direct messages that arrive shortly after you join, and never trust a group claiming to represent a company unless you reached it from that company's own website.
Can I find private Telegram groups here?
No. Private groups require an invite and are not indexed here or anywhere else. Any tool claiming to search private Telegram groups is either describing public groups or misrepresenting what it does.
How do I manage the groups after I join them?
Telegram folders are enough for one person. Once several people manage several accounts, ownership and follow-up need to be visible in one place, which is what a Telegram CRM does.
